Sol de Mañana's Geysers

Located at more than 4850 m altitude, this field of geysers is fed by an underlying volcanic activity, due to the friction of the American plate with the South Pacific plate. This is manifested by astonishing spectacles made of mud craters bubbling and fumaroles with sulphurous vapours under the effect of pressure (and heat: one arrives at nearly 200°!). These thermal baths are located in the heart of the Salar de Chalviri, a salty formation populated by flamingos and ducks: the living species of this area have managed to adapt to these hostile climatic conditions, to say the least.
