Arrival in Chile by road

From Peru:

The land border with Peru is in the far north of the country. The only road access connects Arica, on the Chilean side, to Tacna on the Peruvian side via the Santa Rosa border crossing.

From Bolivia :

There are several border crossings from Bolivia.

In the North West, the Border of Hito-cajon, only crossable within a tower linking the Bolivian South Lipez to the Atacama Desert. The dirt roads of this remote and sparsely inhabited region only allow access by 4x4 vehicles in companies that know the road perfectly.

Otherwise, the post of Ollagüe connects Uyuni to Calama and then San Pedro d'Atacama directly by road.

In the north, several passages exist to reach the north of Chile from La Paz or Oruro for example.

From Argentina :

There are a multitude of road border crossings between these two countries which share several thousand kilometres of borders.

Among others, we can mention the following:

To the north is Paso de Jama which connects the Argentinean region of Salta with San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.

In the center, Paso Sistema Cristo Redentor which connects Mendoza in Argentina to the capital of Chile, Santiago de Chile.

In the South, at O'Higgins, it is the end of the Carretera Austral, a passage obliged by Argentina to continue the route towards the extreme south.

Finally, in the far south, Paso San Sebastian shares Tierra del Fuego between the two countries.
