The millenary trees of Chile

The Chilean Alerts, 3600 years on the counter!

The Chilean forests, although they have experienced a strong deforestation, nevertheless keep some nuggets well protected from now on by many National Reserves.

This is the case of the Alerces in the Valdivia region. These conifers native to Chile, otherwise called Fitzroya cupressoid of their scientific name or Lahuén in Mapuche language, are close to the Cypress.

These monuments of the humid forests of Chile can reach 50 m in height and live beyond 3000 years.

The oldest recorded to date would be 3625 years old!
