Tourist Offices in Chile

There is a particularly effective government agency in Chile. El Servicio Nacional de Turismo or SERNATUR is a public service responsible for promoting and disseminating Chile's economic and cultural development through tourism, under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Economy.

Present in all regions and in most cities and tourist sites, SERNATUR's agencies are in charge of implementing regional development plans in partnership with tourism industry stakeholders.

SERNATUR is also responsible for tourist information for travellers. You can visit its tourist information offices (oficinas de información Turistica, OIT) almost everywhere. These are reception areas open to the public where you can get free information, maps, recommendations to help you make decisions and find your way around your various local destinations.

The consultation of a SERNATUR office is essential if you are planning an excursion on your own. The authorized local tourist agencies are usually listed there and SERNATUR will help you avoid inconveniences (or even scams) by not choosing the right service provider.
