What are the distances between cities in Chile?

Chile is a gigantic country that stretches over 4300 km in length. On the other hand, it is very narrow in width between the coast and the Andes Cordillera with an average of 180 km, 90 km at the narrowest.

But Chile is above all an almost "empty" country in terms of the ratio between its population (17 million inhabitants) and its surface area. The large urban and populated centres are thus very distant from each other.

Here are a few distance markers:

By private car in the dry season:

Santiago - Valparaiso: 116 km 2h15

Santiago - San Pedro de Atacama : 1630 km 18h

Santiago - Puerto Montt : 1033 km 11h15

Santiago - Punta Arenas : 3000 km 37h

By plane without stopovers:

Santiago - Calama (San Pedro de Atacama) : 2h then 1h30 of road

Santiago - Puerto Montt : 1h40

Santiago - Punta Arenas : 3h

Santiago - Easter Island: 5:25
